Where Are They Now?

“I retired from Civil Service with the Air Force in March 1994,
after 44 years (total government service of 46 years, including two
years in the Navy during World War II). In 1995 I joined the National
Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), now known as the
National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, and soon
became Vice Chair of Public Relations for the California Federation, a
position I still hold. In this capacity, I participate in meetings with
various government agencies, bother federal and local, as well as with
U.S. legislators, to promote the philosophy and goals of NARFE. The
primary purpose of NARFE is to defend the earned benefits of both
active and retired federal employees from attack. Included in these
agroups are members of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary
Branches.

“In 2001, I became President of the NARFE Town and Country Chapter
1674 (Sacramento), which has approximately 250 members. I have been
married to the former Eva Mary Key for 52 years. We have three
daughters, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. After
marrying, we lived in San Bernardino California for 12 years, until my
job with the Air Force moved to McClellan AFB, Sacramento, CA. We have
lived here for 40 years, so I guess this one is permanent! I graduated
from Speed School August 1943, and I would enjoy hearing from members
of my class.”

“I transferred to Yokosuka, Japan, from Guam. I’ve already been to
Bagkok, Okinawa, Nagaski, and Hiroshima. I was promoted to GS-14 ASAC
in August 2005. Are there any other alumni in Japan? I would like to
see the chapter house renovated.”

“I completed my Master’s of Engineering in Operations
Research/Systems Analysis from Old Dominion University in May 2005. I
worked for Scientific Research Corporation as an Operations Research
Analyst in Suffolk, VA. The current contract I am working on supports
the Join Test and Evaluation Center (subordinate to the Office of
Secretary of Defense), and we are working on Join Mobile Network
Operations. Trina and I still live in Hampton, VA. The three kids are
getting older – Jaynie is 14, Jimmy is 10, and Alyce is 3. I can be
reached at this e-mail address: jameslaverty [at] cox [dot] net.”

“My love of computers lead me down the networking path, and I have
spent the past 10+ years working specifically with Novell products. I
am currently certified 14 times over for my troubles. I spent
approximately 3 years living and working in the Bay area as a senior
network consultant for a small consulting company called Keep It Simple
Computer Center or KISCC. From there, I obtained a job through a
headhunter with an international law firm based in Bermuda called
Conyers, Dill & Pearman where I was employed as their senior
network engineer for 3 years. During that time I was also spotlighted
as one of Novell’s “Engineers of the Month.” Recently I moved to the
United Kingdom as a Highly Skilled Migrant Programmer and have taken up
a position as Head of Information Technology for a drug discovery
company called Argenta Discovery. Argenta does contract drug work for
companies all around the world including GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, and
Eli Lilly. I also had the good fortune of meeting my Ukranian wife
Lidia, whom I have been married to for 5 years now. Well past my “wild”
days of Triangle, it just shows that even I could finally find someone
who could tolerate being around me. I have no children as of yet, but
it is something to consider after Lidia finishes law school. Since my
days in college, I have had the opportunity live in a lot of different
places and have also travel extensively around the world. I must
confess that I do miss my days in college and the brothers with whom I
spent very important years of my life. College is the time to forge
friendships that will last a lifetime. I believe my biggest regret is
loosing touch with my brothers that I used to be so close to. This is
the main reason that I decided to forward on my details. My email
address is: Shannon [dot] McCarthy [at] ArgentaDiscovery [dot] com.
